Paulo Bruscky

b.1949, Recife, Brazil

Brazillian artist Paulo Bruscky is a key figure in international mail art and Fluxus movements. He has participated in shows at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, the São Paulo Biennal and many others. His works have been acquired by the Guggenheim, MoMA, and Tate.

International Exhibition of Mail Art, 1976
Paulo Bruscky and Santiago, published by Paulo Bruscky, Recife. Foolscap flyer (folded three times), printed black on white, 325 x 220 mm. No edition size given. Flyer designed by Bruscky for exhibition at the Recife Post Office. Bruscky and Santiago were arrested by the authorities after the exhibition, though no specific reason was ever given as to why.

Foolscap lithograph (folded twice) printed black on white, 210 x 310 mm. No edition size given. Design shows a man's opened cranium with letters falling out.

Arte / Audio Video, 1977
Published by Paulo Bruscky, Recife. Foolscap lithograph (folded twice) printed black on white, 215 x 325 mm. No edition size given. Design shows audio and video storyboard for an 'Arte' production, with text blacked and crossed out.

Both International Exhibition of Mail Art and Arte / Audio Video were sent by Bruscky to Peter van Beveren at the Art Information Centre in Middelburg, Netherlands, in the 1970s.
